Combat Effects

Timed status effects that shape a fight: buffs you gain from abilities, potions and passives, plus the burn you inflict on mobs. Most escalate as you keep swinging.

How effects work #

An effect is a temporary state layered on top of your normal combat stats. Some come from potions you drink, some from a gear weapon's ability, and some from passives that fire on a kill. Each one runs on its own timer and stacks on top of everything else you have active, so a good fight often has two or three effects running at once.

Two families of effects live here:

Player effects
Buffs on you: extra Damage 🗡, Mining Speed ⛏, resource fortune, and more. These show in your effects list with a countdown.
Mob effects
States you inflict on a mob, like the burn from Inferno. The mob takes the consequences; you just keep hitting.

Many of the combat effects escalate: every mob you kill while they're active makes them stronger, and often adds a little more time. That rewards staying on the offensive instead of retreating.

📂
Effects are just buffs. They aren't items and they're never carried through a reset. Your actual gear, potions and everything else you own are kept through every reset; only the timer on an active effect runs out normally. See Time Leap for the full "what resets, what doesn't" breakdown.

Escalating combat buffs #

These are the effects that grow while you fight. Chain kills to keep them climbing.

🥼 Frenzy

Multiplies your Damage 🗡. Every kill while it's up adds a level and one more second, up to ×3 Damage (i.e. +200% 🗡) at full stacks. Triggered on a kill by the Barbarian passive (Carnage), which starts it at 30 seconds.

💥 Rampage

A potion buff. Each mob you kill while it's active adds +0.5% Damage 🗡, building up to +200% 🗡 before it caps. Comes from the Rampage Potion (Epic, 20 min).

Chronite Rush

A mining buff that scales with how much time it has left: every 30 seconds remaining grants +1% Mining Speed ⛏, up to +100% ⛏ while it's fresh, tapering as the timer ticks down.

💡
Frenzy 🗡 and Rampage 🗡 stack, so running both while clearing a Cave Crawler swarm snowballs your damage fast. Keep killing; the moment you stop, both timers start draining.

Utility & potion buffs #

Not every effect is about killing faster. These flat buffs power up your mining and resource gains, and most come from the Alchemist's potions or a signature item's ability.

EffectWhat it doesSource
Mining Surge ×2 Mining Speed ⛏ The Deep Breaker ability (right-click)
Arcane Blessing +10% Intelligence effectiveness Arcane Potion (15 min)
Potion of Strength +Damage 🗡 per level (up to +8) Potion of Strength (10 min)
Gatherer ×1.25 all resource fortunes Gatherer Potion (15 min)
Fortune ×1.35 all resource fortunes + Loot Luck ⭐ Fortune Potion (20 min)

Loot Luck ⭐ from the Fortune buff feeds straight into your drop rolls, so it's worth drinking before a boss run. The two fortune potions don't stack their multipliers with each other, so drink the stronger one.

Inferno: the burn #

🔥 Inferno is a two-part effect. On you it's a short buff that makes your hits set mobs ablaze; on the mob it's the burn itself.

The buff (on you)
Right-clicking with the Carnage Cleaver (Carnage-only) ignites the blade for 15 seconds. While lit, every hit you land applies the burn.
The burn (on the mob)
A struck mob catches fire for a few seconds, taking 10 fire damage each second. Unlike ordinary fire, this damage is reduced by the mob's Defense 🗡, and it's doused early if the mob steps into water. Landing fresh hits refreshes the burn rather than stacking extra ticks.
🔥
Some mobs are naturally fire-proof (like the wither-skeleton Gemstone Guardian). They still take the Inferno damage; they just show flame particles instead of the usual burning overlay.
